Once a year, the MakerBus team heads out west to lovely Victoria for the Digital Humanities Summer Institute. Over 600 academics participate in this annual event, which consists of week-long intensive courses in subjects such as text analysis, digital pedagogy, web development and physical computing. In June 2014, Ryan, Beth, and Kim, together with members of the Eurekamp program from the University of Alberta, ran a camp for kids 8-12 called MAKE U. Together we explored everything from circuitry to lenses, and every day we came together to talk about the bigger questions which came to mind whilst making these projects.
This year we are heading back out to the University of Victoria to offer MAKE U 2015. We’re planning out a great week of making, breaking, thinking, and exploring, and would love to have your 8-12 year olds join us. So, if you are heading out to Victoria for DHSI, or live in the greater Victoria region and want your children to have a week of hands-on learning, please consider joining us!
